  • Is Pilates suitable for beginners?

    Absolutely! Pilates is designed to be adaptable for all fitness levels, including complete beginners. Here at Thrive Pilates in Cochrane I am skilled at modifying exercises to match your individual ability and will guide you through the fundamental principles of movement and breathing. I ensure you learn the proper form from the start to build a strong and safe practice.

  • What is the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates?

    The main difference is the equipment used. Mat Pilates is performed on a mat on the floor, using your own body weight as resistance. It's a great way to build foundational core strength and body awareness. Reformer Pilates uses a machine called a Reformer, which adds resistance through a system of springs and pulleys. This allows for a more varied and often more intense workout that can target specific muscle groups with greater precision. Both offer fantastic benefits, and many people enjoy practicing both.

  • How often should I do Pilates to see results?

    For best results, we recommend attending Pilates sessions two to three times per week. Consistency is key to building strength, improving flexibility, and developing the mind-body connection that is central to the practice. However, even one session a week can make a positive difference in how you feel and move. We can help you find a schedule that fits your lifestyle and wellness goals.

  • What can I expect during a BodyTalk session?

    Cochrane BodyTalk Treatment Room

    What to Wear: You will remain fully clothed, so wear something comfortable. There is no need for special athletic wear.

    The Environment: The session takes place in a quiet, private, and relaxing space. You will typically lie comfortably on a treatment table.

    Session Structure: A session usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. You and the practitioner will briefly discuss your health and wellness concerns. Then, you’ll relax on the table while the practitioner uses gentle muscle testing on your arm to identify areas of imbalance in your bodymind.

    The Process: The practitioner does not diagnose or prescribe. Instead, they follow your body's innate wisdom to determine what needs to be addressed. Once a priority is identified, the practitioner will lightly tap on your head (to alert the brain) and sternum (to store the changes in the heart complex). This process is gentle, non-invasive, and deeply relaxing. Many clients report feeling a sense of calm and clarity during and after the session.
